WHAT IS WIFI
Wifi stands for "wireless fidelity" and refers to certain kinds of wireless local area networks, or WLAN (as opposed to LAN, or computers that are networked together with wires).
Any device you have with a wireless card (most likely your laptop, phone, tablet, and e-reader) can connect to the internet via wifi. And what's a wireless card? It's basically like a modem but without a phone line. What's the difference between wifi and the internet? The wifi is the wireless network you connect to that allows you to access the internet.
Who Invented WiFi
Dr. John O'Sullivan, an Australian engineer, is credited with leading the team of inventors who developed WiFi technology. However, like other inventions of this size, there were several other people who also contributed to its development. The invention of WiFi was gradual, and its function was first conceived of in the 1970s. Improvements to WiFi internet technology continue to take place today.

1. Wi-Fi is fast enough
Thanks to the new standards, Wi-Fi has become increasingly fast over time, to the point that the difference between Ethernet and Wi-Fi regarding speed is not so relevant anymore. Indeed, the latest WiFi 5, also known as 802.11ac, the standard provides a speed of up to 3200 Mbps, making Wi-Fi enough good performing for the majority of tasks.
Also, latency is not a big issue either: it is true that with Wi-Fi there is a higher delay when signals travel from a wireless device and a wireless router, but this does not prevent a good performance if you use your network to browse online, stream videos and listen to music. On the other hand, being less affected by latency, Ethernet connections are a better choice for online gaming and VoIP calls.

How Does a Wireless Network Work?

adapter will encode information into a radio signal and then transmit it using the
wireless antenna that is normally built into the screen of new laptops.
Wireless
signals can also be received via an external antenna plugged into the USB slot of a
computer. The WiFi router for the network then receives this information, decodes
it, and sends to the Internet through a wired, high-speed connection.
How Do You Connect to a Wireless Network?
In order to connect to a wireless network or WiFi hotspot, the computer must have
a wireless adapter. Most new computers have this built in, but you still need to
check. If the PC does not have it, a PCI or USB adapter can be purchased in most
electronics stores. Once the wireless adapter is installed, it will be able to
automatically detect available wireless networks in range of the computer.
On a
Windows computer, you can double click the “Network” icon in the Windows System
Tray and then select “Show Available Networks” menu option. The WiFi networks
that are in the range of the computer will be displayed, and the user can click the
network he/she wants to join. However, if a network is labeled as being secure, a
pass-phrase or password established by the network administrator will be needed
to make the connection.

How to connect to a Wi-Fi network
- Go into the Settings menu → Connections.
- Tap on Wi-Fi.
- Toggle the switch to enable Wi-Fi.
Select the Wi-Fi connection you wish to connect to.- Enter in the Wi-Fi network password into the prescribed field and then tap on Connect.
- Your device has successfully connected to the Wi-Fi network.
